It does look like a damaged coin, but what caught my eye was the rim below the date.

Willm - you'll find plenty of help here. Many knowledgeable folks willing to chip in on a discovery or a question. Don't be afraid to ask but also don't be afraid to use the Search tool here to pinpoint a subject for you. Plenty has been written and reading older threads can really help broaden the knowledge. Reminds me of a coin exposed to heat. The clad layers separate when trapped air/gas pockets expand. Thanks Doug.
