Hello. Just a beginner here...Recently my wife pulled out a box of coins her dad collected. We never thought much of it until now. From the brief reading I've done coin history is very intrigueing to us. There are 123 pennies we have from 1943. Also some buffalo head nickels and half dollars that appear to have value. Obviously he was holding these coins for a reason.. Can anyone help on what is the best way to go about getting pricing or value on these coins. The 1943 pennies all stuck to a magnet so I know they're not the real rare ones ...Thanks !

Welcome to the forum!

If you think you may want to collect coins, I strongly recommend buying the RedBook (A Guide Book of United States coins by R. S. Yeoman). This book is published annually and is an excellent reference.

If you just want to look at some prices, the link below is to a pretty good online retail price guide. To make good use of it, you will need to know the 'grade' of your coins. Most likely the coins you've found will be toward the lower end of the grade scale, but if you post some pictures we can give you some opinions.

There is nothing very special about 1943s other than what they are made of. A lot of people have told me that they have "silver" pennies which turn out to be steels from 43. Only the really nise ones are worth anything and I they have been in a box and stuck to a magnet then they are probably dinged up a bit.
