Hey everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help me out and let me know what this coin is?
I think its something commemorative as it 120mm dia (4.72" in the old money, pun intended) Nothing on the back.
i acquired this brass thing around 1985 from the Huddersfield area in Westyorkshire when I was 6 and always wondered what it was.
Willson Jowett is the name in the rectangle whom from google seems to be a WW1 veteran. all other searches have been fruitless.

Anyone able to shed some light as to what it is?

Kind Regards,
Rick

I moved your post to the correct section of the forum. Your item appears to be a medal/token produced by a private company. The figures/images resemble tokens and coins produced in the UK

Seems there was only one Wilson Jowett recorded on the Commenwealth war grave commision website.

And he's recorded on the Tyne Cot memorial!

I would very strongly suggest some conservation effort be made to insure the oxidation does not continue to spread. Verdicare would probably take care of this problem.

I'll look into getting it cleaned up and store it properly to stop the oxidisation, Thanks

I have heard you can have modern repros of these made. I would be interested in getting one for my dad. When he was a boy he had one for his grandfather who died 1916 before his mum was born. It was the only thing his mum had to treasure from her dad. Unfortunately dad's stepdad was a drinker and pawned it for booze. Anyone know a useful link?

It's a beautifully struck piece, what with the high relief and classic design ... a fitting memento. It's also a historic reminder of the now century old partnership that Britain and the U.S. have shared in the interest of freedom. Love it!
