Hello all, new guy here. Looks like a good group. Check this out. I have no idea if it's real or not. Granny had it for years. Any ideas?

Thanks! it's hard to see because of the way it's mounted.

I'm illiterate when it comes to coins. Any idea what it is? I could remove it from the necklace but that would destroy the piece. Then I'm sure my grandmother would let me know she's not happy.

Looks real enough from here, but of course it's hard to tell.

Could be lamination from rim through U into and back up in the hair? Maybe some VAMmers will see something they recognize.

Absolutely real. When that piece was made, you could get a coin like that for a dollar. No reason to counterfeit it.

Rest in Peace

Don't remove it from the jewelry it is part of. It is more attractive remaining as found and it would not increase the value of the silver dollar. More likely, it would show problems on the coin from the mounting which would devalue it, rather than making it more valuable.

That is a pretty piece of jewelery. Definitely leave it as is.

Very nice piece. I'd leave it as is, and maybe get it checked out by a jeweler. Diamonds? Gold?
