Hi,

I was going through some old US dollars, and I came across this coin. I tend to do some wishful thinking in terms of hoping for errors, but I think this may be a mild DDO that is tough to see because of wear.

Thoughts? The lips aren't that "hot", but note the doubling along the nose ridge, the (faint bc of wear) doubling on the leaves, and also the second U in "Unum" displays doubling, and the strong serifs -- especially the S in "Pluribus"

Reverse is better than obverse, but not great.I might guess it is around VF 31, but I am not a grader. If this is a DDO, is it worth getting graded by NGC or PGCS?

Thoughts? Thanks!

Normal looking Morgan to me sorry to say.I think what you are seeing is the coins molecular movement over time on the ridge of the nose.

Nope the doubling is very, very obvious on the Hot Lips variety. So much that you can see two complete sets of lips - even on coins worn down with little design left.

Jay,

In the unlikely event you were unaware of this free diagnostic site VAMworld has a decent photo that helps to address your nose ridge doubling inquiry:

http://www.vamworld.com/Hot+Lips

Besides the apparent lack of similarity between each coin's lips, the nose ridge doubling position is distinct for each coin.

Also, just for the record, some members like myself do prefer seeing the entire obverse and reverse of a coin even though the PUP is contained within a small area.

IMO,
