I was able to get through and ordered the 3 piece set. So, at least as of 4:20 EST they still had them.

It took two hours but I managed to get through on the phone and then hold for twenty minutes before placing my order for the 3 coin set and coin and medal set.

Does anyone know the weight of the gold in the $5 coin? Is it 1/10 oz?

I tried getting thru since noon by phone to get the 3 coin proof set. The web site for orders was down due to the Mint changing servers. I tried calling again when I got home from work and gave up until I came here to see if anyone else was able to get thru. I saw MLFY's post that they still had them as of 4:20 EST so I started trying again and got thru @ 8:40 EST thinking they're gone by now. I got lucky and was able to order the set. With only 25k being minted this should be a fine addition to my collection and should appreciate in value.

I kept calling after my last post and finally was put on hold. 40-50 minutes and placed my order for the 3 piece set. She did say they were on back order with a delay in shipping, I think 6 weeks. We'll see what happens.

Weight is the same as standard pre-1933 half eagles, a bit short of 1/4 oz gold.

Thanks for the info on the weight of the coin. I could not find it on any website.
That sounds like it will be worth the investment of purchasing the proof $5 bald eagle. I was wondering why it cost so much since I thought it was only 1/10 oz.

I was able to get through the US Mint this afternoon & ordered the three coin set EA7, they said the delivery would be 4-6 weeks.

I was able to go through at about 10 pm. The rep sounded burnt out. But I get the gold and silver without problem. The email I got indicated they are back-ordered until Feb 1st.

I guess that is the twenty-five thousand dollar question. Does anyone know if the three coin set or coin and medal sets sold out yet?

They were not sold out of the three coin proof sets as of yesterday morning (01/23/2008). I ordered a set and was also told there is a 4-6 week lead time.

As of 10 minutes ago all products were still available and the mint website is back up and running. I placed my order in about 2 minutes.
