Haha...I was confused at first as to why the images where of gold coins that were most certainly not Nazi-era French, Belgian, Italian and Austro-Hungarian gold coins.

Seems the news organization didn't receive pictures yet of the finds and decided to go with any old image of a hoard of gold coins.

I think the article said that not of these photos were actually of the hoard, just stock photos they used

1821 was the year when Mexico gained independence. Imagine if every American coin was dated "1776 - 2015".

This German gold coin find has been highly publicized, but most of the online articles
use stock pictures, either ones of Adolf Hitler, marching Nazis, Krugerrands, or ancient coins.

The German news photograph of the coins shows mostly Belgian Leopold II 20 Franc gold coins,
which match the description of the find in size and weight.

Photograph in this article:

Another article in German with pictures, French and Belgian coins:
http://www.sueddeutsche.de/wissen/a...rg-1.2565542

From the German article:
The find it is 128 Belgian, 74 French, twelve Italian and three Austro-Hungarian coins.
They all have a diameter of 21 millimeters and weigh 6.45 grams.
The gold content of the 900 alloy is 5.81 grams.
Most of the coins were minted 1850-1910.

@willieboyd2

Thank you very much for the updated images. Certainly looks like the hoard described.

Obviously, it's tough in the journalistic world wanting to break the news first but not having the images ready on time or even available at all.

20F Napoleons. I prefer French over Belgian and Swiss. Standard untraceable traveling money the world over.

The first picture looks like arabic hammered gold.

That's what I thought too.
So much for journalistic integrity.
But the second picture looks right, and beautiful.
