I noticed that on some dimes I been looking at that the ones I find toned red and purple have what looks to be spots on them under 20x magnification. Unlike this gold toned one I have it is clean. Why is that? Is it natural toning? Are they worth anything like even worth collecting? What do you think of these coins I found today looking through a box the coins on bottom are very red to the naked eye picture isn't justified. The bottom left is a 2014 and it's a very deep red?
Different types of environment have different kinds of effects on coins.A coin sitting on the ground verses one sitting in my cup holder in my truck look totally different. I guess it depends if I spill coke on it or coffee.
So in that case how do you determine if a toning adds value? Just try and sell it ? Also I have a mint set with rainbow toning and was under the impression it was a mint error when the planchet was made. So how can you tell the difference?

Toning is not a mint error. It's an environmental issue. If it's in a mint set it depends on how it was stored. Hot attic,Damp cold basement, Humid environment etc. Different environments have diff effects. Some people do like toned coins & collect them and the only way to determine value is in an auction setting
