Flying Eagle cents (1856-1858). One of the shortest series, but also the hardest to complete.

I like Standing Liberty quarters and many of the early commemorative halves. The amount of detail that was fit onto some of them is remarkable. I also agree with the FE cents. I am 2/3 complete with that series. Jim

Think there should be 4. The 1858 comes with large letter and small letter variety. I'm still looking for the small one :)

True enough; I am 1/2 complete with them. 1857 in my type set and an 1858 large letters far leaves in my binder. I think that is the designation. Close/far leaves on the reverse. I guess there are really a lot of varieties in those 3 years if you want to collect them all. I think an 1858 small letters will be where I stop.

Liberty capped cents, which to me have "American experiment" written all over them. Over the past year, these coins have inspired an interest in their sister coinage in France (copper decimes and silver 5 francs 1795-1803) and their predecessors from the English Commonwealth. After that I'm a sucker for Seated coins, walkers, well struck Peace dollars and $10 Indians.

I have to say that American Early Coinage are fascinating but .... I can't really afford them. 1) Mercury dime - So much info/thought in such a small space 2) Lincoln Cent - we all carry a few (weather we like it or not...) - Flying Eagle & Indian cents too. 3) Shield - Liberty - Buffalo - Jefferson nickels4) Early Commemorative ( I like the art, not the motivations/reasons of their making.) Att: 1sikevo - sure, we can afford it.... one day
