I have a D90 and working on building a lens. I am a complete newb regarding photography so if this is a dumb question...that's why haha. Was curious how difficult it would be to mount a Canon Lens on the advised setup of:

M42 Focusing Helicoid 17-31mm
M42 Extensions 2 sets 7/14/28mm or Vivitar bellows, rail and mount.
M42 - M39 Adapter
M42 - RMS Adapter
Nikon 75mm El-Nikkor Lens
Nikon M5 or Plain Objective

Basically substituting a Canon for the Nikkor lens. My wife has a 50mm and 135 mm Canon lens. I have everything on watch on ebay right now but if I could work something with the canon lenses I wouldn't mind saving a few bucks. Also would this make a good bellows?

Thanks for your help guys....really exciting to learn this stuff.

Are these two Canon lenses the modern EF/EOS type, or the older FD/FL/R type lenses? If they are EOS lenses, it may not be easy to set the lens aperture, but you might be able to use the lenses wide open.

Most adapters to adapt Canon lenses to a Nikon F mount camera would have a optical element in them (so the Canon lens can focus to infinity on the Nikon Camera body), and this might reduce image quality. There may be Nikon F camera to Canon EOS/FD/FL/R lens macro-only adapters with no optical element that don't allow for infinity focus.

You might have to make your own adapter by gluing together a drilled-out Nikon body cap and a Canon rear lens cap, or cobble something together using T-mount and reverse T-mount adapters, macro couplers, reversing rings, etc.

shadowtrooper78 you could mount the 50mm and use it on your Nikon. you will have to purchase a reverse mount 58mm Macro Reverse Adapter Ring for NIKON Mount. there is one on ebay right now for 1.95. that's the only way I know you can use a canon lens on a Nikon body. the other members may know a better way.
