Many belgian coins of 40s were made of zinc and their colour is some kind of blue, black and grey. Many european countries made zinc coins during IIWW, the main part of them were countries occupied by nazis: Bohemia and Moravia, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Poland, even Germany had their zinc coins. After the war, the economic situation forced some countries to continue with zinc coins: Austria, for example.

If I´m not wrong, the first zinc coins were made after IWW in Germany, defeated in the war and in a caotic economic situation.
