Looks like a lot of people making donations based on what some of the coins are bid up to (not even including the $8.95 shipping cost)

If it was in any way related to law enforcement, it would be a dot gov domain, not dot com.

Yeah, I've heard of them, and might have perused the site a few times. If I remember correctly the coins seemed overpriced. Maybe there's a deal once in a while, but might be a better place to sell. Maybe someone who has sold on the site will chime in.

It's supposed to be a police auction.
not a place for the average JOE to put his wares up for sale.

In their "About us" page (http://www.policeauctions.com/aboutus.php) it sounds like they started out as a database with links to actual police and other such auctions conducted officially by the government. As time went on, they expanded into being an auction house themselves.

I used to look around there but never saw anything I wanted to take a chance on.

It has NOTHING to do with any police dept. or gov. agency -- says so at the bottom of the home page.

It's somebody's private business.

Nothing of interest on that site. seems way overpriced and not much of a selection.
