Hey everyone Just wanted to get opinions on the following coin that I have my eye on. One photo is just of the coin while the other is of the coin in the holder. Secondly on the issue of provenance. The one above has provenance to the Sunrise Collection (primarily Eastern Coins?). However could anyone list the most notable provenances for Philip II Tets? either specific museum collections, references, plates etc. Thanks in advance everyone Edited by oh my florin 07/25/2015 07:50 am

This coin is absolutely beautiful and is verified through the NGC website to be the one they certified. So there is no question as to it being 100% legit. I'm not familiar with the Sunrise collection. Here is a reference that might help. https://www.academia.edu/3564770/Th..._IIs_coinage

Quite a beautiful coin, OMF. It would be an impressive acquisition. Not my collecting area and so, regretfully, I cannot help with "notable provenances." Did want to mention, though, that, yes, the Sunrise Collection is largely, although - obviously - not exclusively Eastern (Parthia, Elymais, Sassanian Empire, Characene, Persis, etc.). Several of us who collect some of those areas strongly suspect that it (the Sunrise Collection) is the personal collection of Parviz Ahghari, who is the owner of Pars Coins.

Thanks for the opinions guys just looking for a trophy coin at the moment so want to make sure I am making the right decision. That answered another question I had bob l on where to find the catalogue for the Sunrise collection they sell it at Pars Coins (couldn't find it at CNG.)

Be careful of reading anything into the NGC "ex BLAH BLAH BLAH collection." There is a local auction house here in NC that sends a boat load of coins to NGC and he had a large number of ancient denote as ex-BLAH and frankly there was nothing special about the collection. My point is that NGC is probably personalizing their grading, for a fee. That personalization isn't worth noticing unless it is a truly famous collection.

Thanks Paul but the Sunrise collection is rather famous with a catalogue published by CNG on it (catalogue is $175 retail.) However from what I have heard NGC and PCGS require proof of provenance before they will attribute it to an older collection e.g. Sunrise (Ancients) and Benchmark (Australia Pre Decimal.)
Btw that is really dodgy by the auction house you are talking about.
