looks like N-25 to me. Decent looking coin and a variety I do not have. Seller is asking $45 for it. Looks VF 30 or so to me. Not sure about EAC grade with the couple small rim nicks. Also not sure if this variety at R4 would get any premium according to CCR or Noyes books. Any pricing help would be appreciated. Thanks Jerry. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1848-Large-...COCE:US:3160

VF30 would be the low end for that grade imo. Top tier grade has a better than average shot at XF especially with that eye appeal. nlp
Rest in Peace

Nice strong VF at the 35 range, I'd say. No hint of cleaning. Reverse encrustation in letters appears natural without corrosion.

However...

...that rim hit at 11:00 on obverse might kick it out of a non-detail TPG slab.

However, all that said, it's a great looking coin for that price, I think.

Agree with VF35. Kind of a darkish area in lower curls above 8 in date that bothers me. I don't think it would detail it, just my paranoid opinion.

Problem free imo. Heritage only had six N-25's sell in the last 10 years or so, and none in a lower grade. Looks to match die state c with the M in AMERICA attached to the leaves due to die crumbling.

No, I don't think that small rim ding @ 11 o'clock will cause any reduction to value.

I don't know the exact value, but the asking price seems fair. I'd assume seller has no idea about R.4, and I'd probably offer him $30-$35. Full retail for PCGS VF30 is $42.

R4's typically dont deviate from the price of R1's until you get to EAC40. At this grade it isn't worth any premium. Noyes has this listed for $50 at EAC20, having not seen the coin I would guess based on other comments that that would be about where it would net grade, maybe lower.

Edit: ok I looked at the coin. It is nice. EAC20. Looks to have been cleaned but not terrible. Small rim ding but not terrible. Good eye appeal
