I recently inherited 2 18K bezels with Indian coins: $10 (1913) and $5 (1909 I think, as the bezel does not allow me to see it clearly).
I have checked the web site and I have learned that bezels decrease the value of the coins as the soldered parts damage them and it is difficult to recover the coins from some bezels without damaging them even more. In fact the $10 coin clearly has a soldered part while the $5 is not soldered and it rolls around the bezel.
A web site states that a coin in a bezel means more or less the gold melting value.
Is this true? Should I try to get the coins out of the bezels in a jewelry hoping they do not destroy the coin?
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks for your time and help.

Leave them as they are.

Even if the solder could be removed, the pressure of the bezel on the periphery of the coin leaves permanent marks that could not be corrected.

You will have a much easier time selling these if they remain in the bezels, as they are.

As to value, just going by gold value only for the coins themselves, the $10 has $528 and the $5 has $264 worth of gold. That's for today's values, which will fluctuate.

The bezels themselves also contain some gold, although if they were separated they would be scrap gold only. Which is the main reason to leave them alone.

If you were to buy a new bezel for the $10 and $5, it is likely that you would spend well over $100 for ones like you picture.

However, the coins still retain some numismatic value over simple melt gold value. How much depends on where you would sell it.

Sold on ebay, you would probably get LESS than gold value after you paid ebay fees, Pay Pal fees, and postage.

Sold to a jewelry store, you might get a little better than gold only.

Sold to a coin shop or dealer would probably get you a few more dollars, but not many more.

Sold to someone who wants the for presents, maybe even a few dollars above that.

Leave the jewelry as it is.

There are gem stones on one of the pieces and it would be well worth your time to find out just what you have. If those are rubies and saphires the value will increase.

A gemologist can tell you for sure. Try finding one through a local rock and mineral club.

If they are hard soldered in, that is where they will remain; that is the end of their story.
If they are clipped in, it will still be vey hard to remove them, without serious damage.
Keep them as jewelry pieces, they are attractive enough anyway, sell them only if you need the cash.

Short answer is dont touch them!... You will get a nice premium for these well over the gold value if you ever sell them.
