i know this is not a rare find, or that unusual - actually, but its kind of a "fun find" - for me. there are 4 cie cracks. 1 running from the rim = to the bottom right memorial base. it actually continues across the base to the right side of the second to last column.

the nex crack extends from the rim to the left base of the memorial building. then there are two more cracks at the top left corner of the building: one going from the corner of the upper part - all the way to the rim, and the second from the lower part of the building - stoping at the letters.

I was studying the coin trying to think of a grade for it when I noticed Lincoln's head.

Is that damage or delamination? If that's a hit, it left some peculiar looking damage behind.

I think cracks add character to some specimens; think Liberty Bell.

The die was in pretty bad shape with all those cracks.
It's hard to grade it from your pics. You can see it better. To qualify for MS, it must show no sign of wear.

It is common to have die cracks on the edges of the building. When they are not there is harder to find.

thank you for the comments. I'm not sure what you are seeing on lincolns head. in hand, I dont see any damage.

i did not have anther "85" handy - but comparing it to an "83" I dont see any differences.

if you would be more specific - I will certainly check closer.

again - thanks..
Rest in Peace

I see two parallel lines through Lincoln's head. Since nobody else sees it, I will assume it is just a light and shadow thing that got exaggerated when I enlarged the pic.
