"Originally labelled" by whom?

I only ask because this basic design was frequently copied to make "temple tokens".

Indian coins are difficult enough for me to read at the best of times; this one is double-struck on the reverse, making it even harder. Still, I'll see if I can make some sense of it.

OK, after a bit of searching, I'm pretty sure it is an Islamic "temple token". And whoever described it as "C.1554 Bengal Sultanate" was, apparently, just guessing. Coins from the Bengal Sultanate circa 1554 look more like this.
