Here's something I found today going through a stack of bulk Indian cents. At first, I thought this was a die chip, but the edges seem very uniform and square from the field, with a nice curve on one end and a point on the other. What's more, under my microscope there is a trail of raised marks that trail off to the level field. Could that be a skip mark of an MPD? If this is a MPD, is it a documented variety?

Interesting...I'm going to guess that maybe a die gouge?

Yes...to me, it resembles a gouge made by a tool, perhaps a date punch? Under a scope, the skip mark does indicate some kind of tool. Words still out on this one, and I'm looking for another copy. I'm going to send this one to Rick Snow for attribution.

Most likely a die crack.

Perhaps, but under my 320x scope, this mark has three interesting features: 1. a clean, evenly radiused curve; 2. a consistent, sharp edge along the top of a near-vertical ramp from the coin field. 3. the mark ends in a distinctive micro shovel shaped point that is repeated in several raised, possible "skip marks" in the coin field. 4. Consider how the planar top features of the mark join to the more rounded shape of the feather (in the full-resolution photo). I do appreciate your input--so perhaps you'll appreciate these pertinent details. And, for what it's worth...I've examined numerous die cracks under my scope, and they usually begin as a faint irregular line that at some point widens to an irregular mass of metal trying to fill a gap. Not quite as geometric as this particular case, I'd say.

This coin is going to Rick Snow for attribution--and I'll post the results to the forum.
