OK I couldn't figure out if this is a Machine Doubling or a Double die or just Nothing at all, as you can see its a 1986D and it looks like a Combination mix of the two, Double die and Machine Doubling. I cant tell any more, Or its just me going nuts again . I don't need to explain what I see on the penny, its all in the photos, and what ever you say or explain about this penny in any way will be a big help for all of us to learn more and more every day. I hope the photos are good. Image: DSC08229.jpg46.86 KB Image: DSC08235.jpg43.73 KB Image: DSC08240.jpg41.34 KB Edited by Silver Gorilla 01/06/2008 01:39 am

in the first three pics what your seeing is an effect of Die Deterioration,, it is really common to see this type of thing on the Lincolns . I can't tell what is in the close ups the pics are really fuzzy . Metalman

I can't tell anything from the pictures. You might want to try backing up a little bit, getting more of the date and other details in each shot , and trying to get a little better focus.
Thanks, Bill

Silver, that's a very nice coin and I havent seen it reported anywhere. The "GOD" (picture 8297)looks to be double-die. The remainder, to me, looks like die wear.

jhs to me it looks as if it is a double-die date, and the (In God) and the (R) in Trust, The rest of it looks to be like Machine Doubling, or it would be what Metalman said, ( Die Deterioration) But ill just leave this to Coppercoins and Metalman and foundinrolls to have a look at it, There is something very odd about the date 1986. But I'm no expert to know what I'm looking at.

Metalman had it right - that's just a form of die wear and is very common. No doubling at all, you're looking at odd curvitures in the field.

Thanks Metalman thanks coppercoins. Now I should be OK at knowing what to find and exactly what to look for in Pennies. I just got so confused with the odd curvature's on the date, Thinking that the date was split, it just really confused the heck out of me.

The pictures do indeed show, as coppercoins and others have said. Die wear and no die doubling.
