I picked up a couple notes today. Not sure if they have any
value or just some interesting notes for my collection.

Not sure what the date for the Bank of England note is?

The Union bank of Scotland has date 10th July 1939

The blue Bank of England pound note dates from World War II.

The signature on the BoE note is #8203;that of Kenneth Peppiatt, signatory from 1934-1949. From Wikipedia:

Quote:
In 1940 a metal security thread was introduced, and the colour of the note was changed to blue and pink for the duration of the war, to combat German counterfeits.

Do these notes have a collector value ?

Or

Are they still worth exchange rate?

A Bank of England note always retains its face value, for which it can be cashed in at a bank.

I have a 2011 banknote yearbook, which gives values for your note as £8 in VF and £20 in EF.

This book gives the blue £1 notes being introduced from March 1940, reverting to green in September 1948. Your serial of Y86D is towards the end of the run, but I cannot be more specific. Maybe somebody else can give more detail?

I would estimate your note to be somewhere around F, but I am a novice at banknote collecting.

Your Scots note was issued by the Union Bank of Scotland. This design with these signatures was issued Feb 1937 to Sept 1945. Listed in my yearbook (2011) as £40 for VF and £75 for EF.
