And another coin shop in FL, I pulled a 12s nickel out of a bulk bin, literally 2 minutes after the dealer told me I would not find anything good in the bucket.

I picked up a 1785 Russian 10 kopek for $30 almost 15 years ago, was a bit expensive for me while in college. Eventually got it graded and came back as AU-58 from ANACS (when they still did the small white holders).

Man everyone here are whippersnappers (I'm born 1992) ;P as for the topic of the thread, the best deal was a 2005 silver proof quarter set for $18 when silver was at $17.50

What's a coin shop? Wait, I think it's a sub catagory to an ebay store, right?

And here I thought I would be one of the youngest. I've got a good 15 years on some of you, lol. I went to one shop and bought a group of coins that averaged out to roughly $1.19 per coin. A nice F 1773 Virginia 1/2 Penny was in the middle of that group. Ten years or so before that I went to a dealer who had a shop with his brother. His brother did a lot with old toys and this other guy did a lot of bulk buying on ebay (my best guess). Anyways, he would put coins in buckets based on condition and not by year. All of the less than fine Indians were $0.75 each, and anything above that was $1.50. He also had a junk/cull bin for $0.15 each. That was how I got my 1872 and 1873 Closed 3, and a bunch of my 1860s before I upgraded. As it turned out, all of the higher grade coins were from the 1900s. I hardly touched that bin. The same was true for his wheat cents. Anything that was lower grade was a nickel, and anything higher grade was a quarter. I filled up most of an album with teens and twenties for a nickel a piece. Again, the more expensive coins were the more common 1940s and 50s. I went there quite often until I moved away. When I got back to town about five years ago, they had sold the business to a younger couple who knew what they were doing and were really pushy about trying to sell me coins that I didn't want or already had in my collection. I left without buying anything and haven't been back that way since. I now specialize in a lot of old world coins (pre-1900) and there are hardly any coin stores that have stuff like that. Most of my shopping is now done online.

About twenty years ago I went to my local shop and bought a BU 1900-O Morgan dollar. This was on the Friday before Labor Day. I was examining the coin over the weekend when I thought I saw something under the O mint mark. I had to wait until the store reopened after Labor Day . . . and that was a very long wait . . . to take it back and show it to the dealer, who was and is a very nice guy. Sure enough, it was a 1900-O/CC Morgan. I resold it several years for about $200 more than I paid for it.
