I have been collecting coins and some currency since I was 17. Recently I acquired a couple of coins and in between them was a 1799 draped bust silver dollar. After extensive research I found a link on google through this website and found what variety my draped bust was. It turned out to be a BB-168, B22, R5 and after finding that out I was searching for what they sell for these days and couldn't find what I am searching for. I've been poking around here and this is the first time I go on any type of forum, so I am sorry for anything I do or say that might bother anyone here. That been said I was wondering if anyone could help me. I am going to send my coin to be graded by pcgs and at the same time I am trying to find out how to sell it and how much it would sell for so as I don't get less than what it is worth. I am going to post a picture of my coin and any help would be gratefully appreciated. I hope it is no bother, but I would also like to know what my coin would grade in your opinions. Thanks,

No one else has reponded yet so I felt compelled to search up counterfeit examples of this coin (just in case), and this may be one. On the site below it seems to resemble the coin "Die Hard", mainly because of the cut in the R in Liberty... Link! http://drapedbustcoins.reidgold.com/page_7.htmlI hope I am wrong, but I will not grade the coin unless someone can authenticate it.

Hopefully you didn't spend much money on it. Joseph pretty much nailed it.

i checked it's weight and diameter and it all checked out correct before I bought the bag of coins. I even did the magnet test and it didn't stick so I thought it was authentic. I got aroung 1000 world coins with it all with dates starting from 1914 to date. I paid around $1500 US dollars. I hate when this happens. what do you think? Should I send it to be graded or should I not waste my time and money?

. I would save money and have ANACS certify the coin, they are good at detecting counterfeits.

reading the link shared on the "Die Hard" coin and seeing Dad's pics as he has presented them leads me to believe that you've got a replica on your hands. Good luck either way.

ANACS would be the best place to go. Looks like a struck couterfiet, from the same dies as the coin bobby posted.

It looks counterfeit at a glance. That piece has AU level detail and would be worth $6,000 to $8,000 USD if certified AU50 problem-free/genuine. What does the edge lettering look like? Here's a genuine AU50 piece that sold on Heritage over 13 years ago for almost $6,000. http://coins.ha.com/itm/early-dolla...#guides-info

Looks like a fake to me. Least expensive way to go would be ANACS.

Pretty hard to dispute that it's a counterfeit when you compare the details and wear points on the two coins. Not to mentuion that they're exactly the same grade!
