Quote: All you guys who think you can produce this coin in a vice DO IT NOW and PROVE IT "I DARE YOU" When arrogant people come here posting stuff like this and refuse to believe anything except they have an awesome error, it's MUCH more fun to see them waste their money on a body bag. We see this all the time. They come here with an attitude like yours, say they're going to get it certified and post pics and expect apologies, then we never hear from them again. There's no chance that coin is a legit mint error, whether you believe it or not.

Sad thing is the OP is liable to find someone equally gullible on ebay and flog this thing for a couple of hundred bucks.

As others have said, this cent was crushed between a second cent and a counterfeit die composed of relatively soft metal. An unstruck planchet mounted on a dowel and impressed by a cent will do the trick.

I just did this with one medium swing of a hammer and two coins on my basement floor. Took me less than 2 minutes including the picture and this post. Imagine what I could do with a vice and some time.

I think that "report item", for the rest of us never reaches anyone at ebay, the link is just a kind of placebo.

StrangeCoins if you hang around here long enough you will find that most people here will go out of their way to help you ID a coin even when you have no clue of what you have, no need to think everyone is pulling your leg because they are not, and you mentioned that we all think we are experts,,well most of us are not experts but there are more experts here than you may realize and they all give their honest opinion as time goes on it wont take you long to see how much knowledge you will gain from this forum so my advice would be accept what we are telling you sit back read a bit and you might find that somewhere you might actually have a rare coin you didnt even know you had btw

First of all guy's if you had or read what I wrote in the beginning The Coin has been in a Jewelry Box Since the late 40s, Fact. My wife's Grandmother put it in her Jewelry Box My wife transferred it to her Jewelry box in 1979, Fact. All this can be verified from not one source but Five sources. By the way the odds of people getting struck by lighting twice are astronomical but it happens admit it guys your talking Billions of coins being struck the odds are with me not you. Stuff happens. The coin exists deal with it. There are still those who do not believe the copper 1943 penny is real, I find that would be possible also, if a mint employee had put it in, because back in the forties the metal was not on a roll but was on a sheet. Do a little research guy's make me proud and stop parroting each other because you think you know how the machines work, as Iv'e said talk to the old mint employees learn something. By the way I'm still waiting for someone to make an exact copy for me.
