There is Machine Doubling on the 9 and three ridges on the S.

I also have this type 41 I think its rpm#1 sm s over lg S
I am sure if I am wrong I will be corrected!

amac; I looked at the RPM#1 and I dont see the distinct ridges along the northern serif of the S on that or the other RPM listed - so, I dont know...maybe someone else'll chime in.

oops..amac; I meant to say that my "S" is not SE/NW offset....the ridges are all due north of the main northern serif of the S. I hope that makes sense.

I hope that someone will clear this up for us I also have 42-S that look the same way as the 41-s/S

I think it is damage on the top of the mint mark. If you consider the size/shape of the mint mark it looks like it took a hit on the upper part of the S. If the damage wasn't there, the mint mark would be normal in shape with the rest of the mint mark.

I too have this same type error on the same cent so I too had been wondering about the doubling. You beat me to it J_H_S!! I'm glad because your pcs are better then mine.
