As I was looking through my weekly box of halves yesterday I began to notice an unusual amount of absolutely gorgeous GEM BU 1996-P's.
And after finding the first 20 or so I began to notice the normal bust tip to rim die crack they are prone to exhibit in just about every die state but these all went though the bust, designers initials, and into the field towards the Y of LIBERTY.
As I glanced up towards the neck and ear I was genuinely surprised to find naked eye visible clash marks below the ear and on the neck right below the jaw line. So I gave it a closer look with my loupe and this and every other one I found have got multiple major issues!
Another interesting area is on the reverse, right of the eagle's neck. There's what appears to be a horizontal wavy line.
There is also a major N/S die crack/break on the obverse that runs from the chin, up the outer profile and to the rim.

I've tried to imagine the upside down backwards overlay in my head but instead of getting answers I got a headache!

Anyone got any Kennedy half dollar image overlays?

Any help, including thoughts and opinions will be greatly appreciated!

But the design of the quarters and halves have a weakness in that in the design.

Thanks Coop!
Are you seeing any of the reverse devices lining up with the areas on my obverse?

Everything looks normal on reverse from what I can see. Just the die crack on the obverse and the clash lines near the ear. (unless I'm missing something)

Your post is amazing as I just went through the same thing. I found 32 96Ps in gem condition along with 28 2000 Ds the same way. Fourteen of the 96 Ps had cracks similar to yours. I do have one coin that has a crack from rim to rim. In addition to these coins I found 32 silver halves; 1 1964, 19 1967, and 11 1968s. All were in mighty fine shape too. Wondering what gives if folks are finding them in large quantities. You live in Texas? Just wondering.
