You've caught gold fever too? Good thing I'm looking for 1912 or you and I would have been in a bidding war:-)

Great price!

i didn`t have enough funds to win this example.
quit bidding around 325.00 or so.
shame really because it is the year I don't have
and don't expect to see this year as inexpensive ever
again.
regards

The selling price tell you something about how the BOC kind of destroyed the market place for the original coins, bullion value. The market can't absorb 30000 units.

I think it destroyed the market for anything under MS62.
BOC Hoard coins still do quite well as far as I can see.

The falling gold price over the past 5-6 years is undoubtably impacting the value of gold coins although in the case of U.S. Dollar sellers, the present Cdn exchange rate virtually offsets it. (One of my ebay.ca irritants which I generally avoid is paying fluctuating US dollars especially to sellers based in Canada, then my Canadian dollar is converted to U.S. Dollars for Canadian shipping and GST as well.)

But the reputation of the particular seller involved in this 1913 5c auction likely has a bearing on the lower sale price. I don't understand how a very active seller can expect to get decent prices with a showing of such poor photos. That being said, I'm been very satisfied with the few times I've won auctions from this seller and have had no problems whatsoever.

Lower gold price and that seller's very lofty grading are the main reasons for the realized price.

This price is in line with and not far off some other recent raw sales. Selling these coins as dealer I wouldn't expect to get much more over $400 in today's market and gold price.

Here are some recent summer raw sales. These do not include shipping and no taxes were applicable in any.
