i have an altered Buffalo nickel. the buffalo is now a KKK hood with eyes. the Indian has his feathers removed and resembles a black man. is this a Hobo nickel? how do I find out more about it?

I have never seen a KKK hobo nickel before. Using the "upload image" feature on the forum, you can actually upload an image to your post above so we can see. Just click the little piece of paper with the pencil on it next to the "Posted Today" words and then click upload image.

The timeframe is wrong. If this were a buff from the period, it wouldn't have a black man. The KKK were opposed to Catholics, more than anything else, during this era. But would REALLY like a pic. This has potential of being a significant piece.

Any nickel altered with a reasonable amount of skill resulting in a significant change in appearance could be considered a hobo nickel. Not sure what percentage were made by actual bona fide hobos. The craft is still practiced today. I've seen racist themed examples, but I'm thinking that a hood on the buffalo is a first.

the buffalo is a KKK hood. not just a hood on the buffalo. Most of the side that was the buffalo is now the KKK hood and it even has eyes in the hood. can't wait for my son to get home so I can post pics

Oh, I was hoping it was the other way. But it probably would have just ended up looking like a cow filled with hate.

OMG, just did some googling and found a KKK elongated cent. Did the sign on the machine say "Just 26 cents- take home a souvenir of the rally"? How bizarre.

That post was about an elongated cent like the kind you get at fairs, museums, or theme parks. Can't wait to see your hobo nickel.

Wow, that's pretty cool (not because it's the KKK, but because of all the history)!

Looking forward to better photos ... the one you provided appears to have supported your initial description of a KKK Buffalo.
When you get the coin out of the safe ... clear images of both sides would really help.
