Not worth anymore than face, lol! The description is what stumbles me a bit. It looks like it was copied from some website, but then the fact that it says "Composition: Silver" worries me.

No 1974 halves were silver, unless they were struck on the wrong planchet, which none of the 1974 halves that are known to exist have ever been struck on silver stock. They have been struck on nickel stock, and there's one '74 half I found on google images that was struck on some taiwan coin planchet..

I may throw a bid down. I don't care about them being silver or clad, but if I could get $9.50 for $6.50, I'll do it.
Rest in Peace

I think what CWB was referring to is that this guy has other listings for clad halves and he describes them all as being silver. I think this is a simple case of the seller just being ignorant and not knowing that they actually aren't silver. He does have from 40%'s listed but wow...a buy it now price of $40 for two 1968 halves? Yeah....okay...

Would be great to win it for 50 cents under face and then tell them to send one, but keep the rest as payment.

Might just be the vernacular chosen. "You can buy dinner and dessert for a silver dollar, but dessert alone is half a silver dollar."

75 years ago, that was a correct statement. A generation or two might carry the vernacular forward without regard for correctness. But if it's a shop, then maybe a cut-and-paste error. Not sure if it's an attempt at fraud though.

Probably just ignorance. I used to use my till to dump a portion of my CRH rejects back into circulation--most knew that 1970s halves are worth face only, but others thought they never stopped making them in 40% clad. Still, someone who cannot be bothered to Google their merchandise really has no business selling coins on ebay.

Ploopy if he is that ignorant then you should definitely go by his shop because then I'm sure he has things that are worth money and he has no idea
