Thanks for your response.

Now, that is a new term for me. I found one online reference to a rolling fold.

It is a little difficult to interpret. My coin appears to have the A and M letter tips under the feature. Is that the way it should be with a rolling fold?
Rest in Peace

A rolling fold happens when a blanking punch has a spot that is very dull or chipped. The blank it punches out has a tap where the metal stretched and tore away instead of being sheared. When the blank goes through the upset process this tab gets pushed up. Then when the coin is struck this tab gets folded struck into the coin. That is why you see a rim running over the fold and if it is long enough letters will be struck into it. That's what appears to be on your coin. The only other possibility I could think of is a small lamination but I am sticking with rolling fold. Besides rolling fold is a much better error to find.

Thanks for the explanation - that helps a lot.

It appears that these are not all that common, so I am especially happy to find it!

I'm not 100% this is the so-called Rolling Fold error (not a totally accurate term). There are diagnostics inherent to this type that I do not see here such as the "trench" that encircles all genuine "Rolling Fold" errors -- though it could be worn away by circulation.

Thanks for the image, Ken. I don't quite know how to factor the fine differences between the images!

If it is not a "Rolling Fold" or "Struck in Rim Burr", then what would you call the feature on my coin?
