Found a platinum wedding band at the beach on Friday with the ole metal detector. At 11 grams the coin shop would be willing to give me a $300 credit. The scrap value is close to $340.

Looking at a 1912 P 5$ NGC graded at MS 61.

Is that an ok price there's not much on the ebay history search ?

If you don't like the quote on the platinum band, then why not try another LCS? And ask for a cash price.

As for the 1912 in that low-MS holder, it's basically a bullion coin. Not worth more than $325 tops, and probably less.

I hope you did your due diligence on your find. Anyway 11 grams of Pt, and the ring should be .995 fine as Pt is rarely alloyed in jewelry, melts at $351 right now. A bit better than your $340 scrap value.

The 1912 G$5 Indian in 61 is a $450 piece. Likely $500 retail if it's attractive and no lower than $400 even if it's fugly. If somebody is offering it as a $300 trade they don't know what it's worth. Hope this helps.

P.S. Just saw Coinfrog's post and he is mistaken. It is not a bullion piece in NGC MS61.

Missed a fact sorry the coin he's selling is $575 with the $300 credit I'd be paying $275 cash plus the ring.

It doesn't have anyone's name on it. There are four stars and PL for platinum

Platinum has historically outperformed gold and its current market price is extremely depressed. I think you should wait on the market to recover, and it will, and you will be able to afford a much nicer coin for the same 11 grams of Pt.

Just my Two Cents.

$575 would be full retail+ on an NGC 61. Consider $225 + the ring as the most you should pay.

That ring likely cost the original buyer at least $1,000.

Jewelry has such a huge premium! I wouldn't be surprised if that ring cost 1500. If you want a good business with huge profits. Being a jewelry is the way to go.!
