Thought I would share with everyone my findings from last year. Actually about 4 1/2 months. Just started in August. Everything was in its own container so it wasn't to hard to total up.
I was quite amazed with the totals.
cents 1844 nickels 289 dimes 604 quarters 334 halves 1 dollars 5
Total $182.29 3077 coins 11 nickels before 1960, 6 wheaties and 1 silver dime. Oldest cent 1929, nickel 1940, dime 1964, quarter 1965, half 1984 & dollars 1979.
Jewelery w/stones silver 28.1g 10K gold plated 3.8g 14K gold 10.3g
209.4g of cosmetic and fake trinkets and stuff.
1 knife, 2 watches(cheap), 3 elongated cents, 7 game tokens, 1 car wash token, 12 keys, 1 lock(just have to figure the combo), 3 bullets, 2 slugs, 1 casing and 7 canadian coins.
That pretty much sums it up. Oh and lets not forget about the trash and pull tabs. I hope everyone else had a good year.

Sounds like you use the smart approach and dig every target.. I couple of the people who were in my local metal detecting club (Now Defunct) were penny nickel snobs. They would only dig dimes and above. No telling how much stuff they missed... Good haul. I am looking forward to going out again with my detector when I get back from Brazil.

Thanks guys. Very happy with the finds. Hope this year is at least as good. I pretty much dig everything. Just can't see passing it up. Doesn't take that much time to dig it up when I'm right there. You never know. It all adds up. And had a great time doing it. It's cool that some people don't dig the little stuff. More for me. Hope your wait to go looking isn't too long Richard.

Nice finds SY, those pennies and nickles add up. Digging everything not only pays out in a the occassinal surprise it rids the ground of the stuff for easier hunting next trip out.
You get to do any relics hunting on any of the old civil war grounds? I think it would be a blast to live in one of those areas. A freind of mine sent me a few 3 ringers and round balls. Some of those belt plates they find are awesome.

Thanks ODD, that small change does add up. I haven't done any looking at any civil war sites yet. Just haven't taken the time to look.
While looking at a park a few months ago I had the chance to talk to an old timer that use to look himself. All his buddies are up in age so they don't go out much anymore. He did tell me of a couple of areas that had civil war battles and are still owned by farmers. He also told me of a guy he knew that had found a cannonball. Went to drill out the powder and blew himself up along with half his house. Not to bright. This year I am going to give it a try and see if I can find anything.

Not to poke holes in a story, which sounds like a good one, but I thought cannon balls were solid metal? To my knowledge, they aren't filled with powder...

CPChicago, Cannonballs are hollow and contain a powder charge. A fuse is inserted in the hole (various burn times were available). When the bore powder ignited, it ignited the fuse on the cannonball. It exploded when it got downrange. At least in theory ... stories abound of defective, fast-burn fuses or fuses that didn't ignite.

If you guys are interested in seeing some dug shells and fuses from cannonballs, go to savinghistory.net. The video shows them digging out two whole shells and a cannonball fuse that did go off. They dig show pretty interesting civil war peices.
