The price is somewhere in the $70 range, if it's lower than usual that's probably because the seller doesn't normally deal coins. What do cleaned examples such as this generally go for?

BIG red flag. This is a $500 coin if the surfaces are original. I don't understand why nobody else is concerned with those black patches; no clearer indication of a harsh cleaning has ever been posted at Coin Community.

Something is very, very wrong here. $70 buys an FR-2 1886; only about 100 of the over 1300 of these Heritage has offered went for so cheap.

Xf details, looks genuine to me. It looks like it might have had an old cleaning

SD - I revisited this one after reading your post.

I think this coin was mounted, possibly on a tie bar or a brooch of some sort.

The reverse at 9:00 looks like mount damage, and if you draw a straight line due east you find a hole or pit in the coin.

Cleaned, probably with silver polish.

I see. The transaction has yet to be completed so there's still time for me to back out of it. I'll wait for another one to come along. Boy am I glad I mentioned the price.

Yeah, even as cleaned ex-jewelry I wouldn't ask less than $225 or more for it, and expect $250+. It, along with 1885 and 1912-S, are the Keys to the series.

If you can buy that coin for $70, please do so. That's a GREAT deal even with "issues."
