I just have... Oops...

I put in a commission bid on a third-party website recognized by the auction company, but I never got a confirmation email saying that they got my bid like they said they would.

So my lot comes up, and it starts out with a bid of 4/5ths of my commission bid with the bid on the floor. I was in the moment, so I had assumed that an online commission bid would come up as an internet bid and didn't think otherwise. I bid, got out bid. I bid again, and them the bidding website said that bid was already taken (equal to my commission bid), but I really wanted the coins, so I bid again thinking that someone else on the floor bid before I got that previous one in. I got it with that last bid.

It didn't occur to me until afterward that I may have just been bidding against myself (there was no way to tell in the first place), when I thought that the floor bid may have been an auctioneer representative bidding on behalf of the bidders who submitted commission bids.

It wasn't a big error; just one that made the coins go from a good deal to an ehh deal.

Has this ever happened to you? And do you think that the auction company would rectify this mistake if it is indeed what had happened?

For those who are wondering, these are the coins in question:

I attended two ANA Seminars about 3 years ago.
At the auction to raise money for YN scholarships I was bidding on an item.
As I usually do at auctions I just continue to hold my bidder number up until I reach my limit.
The auctioneer keeps the bidding going as long as there's more than one bidder -- or so I thought.
In this case he kept pointing to me and raising the bid (I wasn't paying close attention).
If I recall correctly I raised myself from about $80 to $120 before I caught on.

At least it was for a good cause.
