Another newbie question...I have several 1999 gold eagles, if I plan to sell them eventually or get them graded, do I need something to prove their authenticity?

Getting them graded should prove their authenticity.

Getting them graded is not the answer to everything. Education and knowledge is the key. Weight the coins and match the dimensions to known samples. Look for details within the coin. If the scumbags can make a gold coin good enough to fool you, they can make a fake slab too. Look at the NGC website. There is a new alert for counterfeit slabs that look almost like the real thing, including the holograph and serial number (the serial number comes from an authentic coin so if you look it up, the number will match the date and denomination). This picture of fake NGC and ANACS slabs from China will send chills down your spine.

I don't question their authenticity because I bought them from a reputable company. I was just curious if others would be skeptical if I ever decide to sell them. Thanks!!

Those China slabs are scary. Makes you wonder if a couple of years from now nothing will be safe.

If you check out the NGC Press Release it will tell you how to tell a fake slab from a good slab.

1999 gold coins arent worth more than their gold value. unless they are MS69+, getting them graded is a waste. check the weight and the dimensions and just take a good look at them for details that dont look right. that is enough for authenticity

There have been fake silver eagles (bad fakes out of China that wouldn't fool anyone with evn a little bit of experience) and fake small size platinum eagles( better fakes but still visualy recognizable). To date I hav not heard any reports of fake gold eagles.
