For what it's worth, when I went to Macau in 2011, the Pataca appeared to be nearly extinct. Before I traveled to Macau I tried to get Patacas, but it wasn't possible to get the currency. The currency still exists, is the official currency of Macau, and prices in Macau are in Patacas. However, the casinos in Macau only accept Hong Kong Dollars, and given how much business the casinos do in Macau, the Pataca isn't really used...or the exchange rate is a rip-off to the visitor (the 1 HKD to 1 Pataca rate is commonly used...the Pataca is very weak to the HKD however in actual exchange rates and certainly not worth par value).
From a collecting perspective, I don't have any idea what the value is, unfortunately.

Going by its condition I'd say face value only.
It's listed in my edition as #104.

I went to Macao in 2012, I only went for the day but I got Patacas, both banknotes and coins. Couldn't get a 2 patacas coin, but I got various designs of banknotes . Yes, a lot of Hong Kong dollars circulate, HKD are circulated there but Patacas are not circulated in HK which causes problems.

Made repeat visits to Macao/Macao starting in 1982 until 2010.
During this time Macanese Patacas were in circulation. The Pataca always circulated at between MOP 100 to HKD 97-99. Official institutions like Post Offices, Tax offices etc are supposed to accept Macanese currency only. The Hong Kong Dollar is NOT legal tender in Macao.
Most (all?) casinos issue casino chips in both Hong Kong Dollars and Macao Patacas. I don't know about slot machine tokens.
Getting local currency in UNCIRCULATED condition is a real chore. You have to go to bank to bank, ask at the post offices etc. I was lucky in obtaining a little bag of 2 Patacas coins. Most dispersed by now. Getting coins in top grade is not much easier in Hong Kong either by the way. It took a week (!) to source one 10HK$ bi-metallic in UNC. I will never let it go... You found them in quantity in circulation in at best banged-up VF+.
Have been collecting Macao coins, paper money and post cards for 30+ years.

Thanks for the welcome walk2dwater & IndianGoldEagle !
To answer your question, walkdwater, yes I did find other UNC coins on my walks around central Macao and Taipa Island - besides the 2 Patacas - mentioned earlier. I did not mention my low-level interest in casino chips as well for which I visited various casinos. The coins I got at face value. Paper currency is another matter altogether. BNU (Banco Nacional Ultramarino) sell UNC notes at a premium in their main branch. Banco da China sells at face value but they are limited in what is available. One of the latter 1000 Patacas appears to be a modern rarity...

- I am shocked that a bank would sell their country's currency at a premium. That just makes no sense to me considering the millions (& in some cases billions) they make off of other people's money & lending money (mortgages) not to mention service charges. Its a real shame that they get away with that but good to hear you got a 1000 Patacas!

Actually, there are a few monetary institutes out there that either flat out refuse to supply individuals with "new" coins and paper money.
Macau's Banco Nacional Ultramarino is not even the most outrageous in terms of cost. Just as an example, I remember ordering quantities of Greek Drachmai lower denomination coins several months before the Euro conversion. I had to pay 6 times face (!) My client really wanted the coins. This was a several hundreds of US$ in face value order - I suspect but I cannot prove that not all the extra fees went to the Greek treasury...
Unfortunately, I did not get a 1000 Patacas note of the 8.12.2003 (2005). It is still missing in my collection and by now I am prepared to pay more than US$300+ for it in aUNC+. Managed to get an AU 500 Patacas and the smaller denominations in UNC.
