Hi. Does this look like the 97 DDO? Am concerned that it is just a reflection/shadow from lighting on my magnifier. Have looked at w my loop with light off as well and seems present a certain angles but not at others. Makes me think it's just a reflection....STILL LEARNING! Thanks from a newbie....

Interesting. I got a feeling it's going to be a no, but I can see why you're wondering. Will wait to see what the experts think on this one. It doesn't look like the DDO that's most well known for that year, however.

Looks like it might be Die Deterioration. I am unsure with this.

Doubling also occurs here.

It is not "the" DDO for that year. Coop has pics of a lot of double ears.

Here is a look at the major Doubled Ear for 1997. William Glenn of FL found this one in 2008 while searching rolls.

Just took another look at this. True It's not the big DDO for that year, but I think the other doubling SilverStacker points out is intriguing. Telling the difference between hub doubling and Die Deterioration in a case like this is way out of my league, but I continue to find your coin interesting. I, personally, wouldn't toss this one back into circulation yet.

The spread is notice under the lobe on the DDO. (also at the top of the ear just under the curl)

I wonder if you are seeing a die crack on the area you have the arrows on? Note how it flows into the beard?
