I can't say I'm all that convinced of the 1875. You know about the different Trade dollar obverses and reverses, right? The 1873-S and Early Dollar are obvious on their faces, though.

Thanks for your diligence here.
I have never understood why anyone would buy ANYTHING on E-bay without full return privileges.
It's time for a reference book on Chinese counterfeits.

Agreed. Speaking just for myself, I believe I do understand the differences. I was just speaking in general terms about returns and the ever-growing need for education in the field of Chinese counterfeits.

Just like the 1921-only reverse found on earlier-dated Morgans, the wrong obverse/reverse for the year on a Trade dollar is a smoking-gun determiner of a counterfeit, although it doesn't work the other way of course. The 1875 is a Type 1 obverse and Type 2 reverse, appropriate for the date, and doesn't really factor into my thinking as a result. I'm not saying the 1875 isn't fake, just that I don't see enough evidence to be sure.

SsDd, it has that look in the fields. Just literally no scratches or anything at all, but the coin is clearly worn.
I'll PM the seller and have it weighed.

I'm almost 100% sure it's a counterfeit, and it's rare for me to be that confident when someone strongly disagrees.

I'm not continuing to post to be argumentative, just in the interest of presenting a discussion. It's my position that the images do not contain enough photographic detail to allow you to be that sure of the fields or devices. I agree there's a lot that looks fake here, but experience tells me not to trust the detail I see in images like this. Your dedication is a service to the Forum, Drew, but we need to expand your horizons.

The only time I have bought a coin with no return is a roll of silver eagles from one of those silver sellers on ebay.

Quote: I have never understood why anyone would buy ANYTHING on E-bay without full return privileges. Well considering there is no such thing as no returns on ebay why not. You can always make a return, at worst you just file it a SNAD and you get back the whole amount.

No, not at all; I was more worried that you'd feel I was attacking you when nothing could be further from the truth.
