Royal Mint released various coins today to celebrate Queen Elizabeth becoming the UK Longest Reigning Monarch.

Looks like two different reverses are being offered.

When The Royal Mint site was online it look like £20 for £20 and the £13 Crown coin were the cheapest ways to get both reverses.

Why has The Royal Mint put 'One Crown' on the reverse? 5 Pounds is most certainly not a Crown, and surely these crown sized coins ceased to be crowns when they upped the value from 25p to £5. Or maybe I'm just being ultra picky.

I do like the £20 reverse though, very nice.
Rest in Peace

Nice to know we aren't the only ones to suffer when a new and popular issue comes out.

Denomination doesn't matter any more. 5 pounds is never going to be worth five pounds, so if it's a crown or a hat, or a pig, doesn't matter, you either buy it or not. I don't.....

Horrible....

The Royal Mint very rarely gets it right with their new issues. The fact that they've released a coin to mark an occasion that the Queen herself doesn't want to acknowledge says it all.

Well the queen would have had to agree to this coin.

True, but the Queen does what she's advised to do.

That's the only way a monarchy can work in a modern western democracy: By having no real power.

But when it comes to coins, she HAS said no.

I spoke with the guy who designed the Diana 5 pound coin, and he was told in no uncertain terms to get rid of stuff like candles (candle in the wind) because it was sentimental towards Diana. The queen did it, no one knows about it, so it's not a problem. Had she said no to this coin, how many people would know and how many would care?
