Poll Question
Politics and coins often come up in the same conversation. We get a variety of customers at our coin shop in downtown Vancouver WA who express a wide range of political beliefs. From collectors proudly adding coins for the historic significance to doomsayers stocking up on bullion in preparation for a US financial collapse and all others in between. What kind of collector are you?

Yeah Debrajc Disn'dat pretty common at our shop. When people walk in I ask "so what do you like to collect?"... "oh a little of this, little of that." Well that narrows it down

I was looking for "all of the above." I balance between a Disn'dat with emphasis on US and World coins, and a serious research set for one of the US coins.

all of the above?
Just kidding; I would definitely be a this and that kind of guy, although more recently, I would be a bit intrinsic too. That way, I have a better guarentee that my coins will hold their value over time a bit better (more or less).

Definitely most interested in the historic aspect of numismatology. My core collection is gathered with this in mind. Not to say I do not have a bunch of dis n dat occupying temporary space in my general collection.

I'm not a doomsday hoarder, but I do prefer U.S. coins that are bullion. I get more enjoyment out of the luster and appearance of silver and gold. I also have a couple rolls of silver eagles as an investment/emergency fund, but I'm not putting my life savings in PM.
Reminds me of a time during undergrad. One of my finance professors was giving a lecture basically discussing how gold and PM typically have a negative beta when discussing volatility and pricing. A classmate asked if he believed in the hype that the dollar was doomed and to start buying silver and gold. His reply was that he didn't believe in the hype and wouldn't bet the farm on PM, but also didn't think it was crazy to have some in a safe in case of an emergency either.

Oh a little of this, little of that. I like Atlantic Canadian pre confederate coinage and municipal trade tokens, Sassanian drachms, coins that underwent a change due to WWII/WWII orders and decorations plus what else ever catches my eye that day.

I'm not a coin collector. I'm a history buff specializing in numismatics.

Definitely a History buff type of collector but I like some bullion too since I don't think that the fiscal policies of this nation are sustainable in the long term. If the U.S. gets in financial trouble there is nobody to bail us out and our debt to GDP ratios are looking a bit more like Japan's and Greece's every passing year.

Almost clicked "Little of this, little of that" but the 80 LB barrel of copper cents made me click hoarder. I was working on a US non-gold type set, but ultimately fell into compulsively buying lots of world coins for a few bucks here, few bucks there on ebay. I will eventually downsize and focus, but it is not this day!

Of those choices definitely a Disn'dat. Interested in a a lot of different series and still haven't been able to focus down to a few.

I am not a Doomsayer. I try to be an optimist. I enjoy the history, but my collection is predominately modern. The older the better is probably wishful thinking. I appreciate the numismatic value over the intrinsic, but the bulk of my collection is common and low-end. I could say "this and that," but I do have some focus (filling albums, building setts). My keeping all nickels and 95% copper cents makes me a hoarder, but that is a tertiary goal at best. I suppose my super ego says "None of these - I can't be put in a category."

This and that collector here-- bulk of my collection is US coins (both classic and modern), some US currency, modern world coins, a few pieces of world currency, purchased a mint memorandum from 1894 earlier this year.
