This is my first R.5. coin and I am more than a little 'tickled' about having it. Yes, I know that the 'rarity' scale has lost a lot of its relevance over time, and Yes, I am aware that some members already have one (or more) R.5. coins in their collections, but this is my 'first' and like all firsts it is to be enjoyed.

LICINIUS I AE Follis, 18 mm., 4.2 gm.
Obv: IMP C VAL LICIN LICINIVS PF AVG; Laureate head right.
Rev: IOVI CONSER-VATORI AVGG; Naked Jupiter standing left holding Victory on globe and leaning on sceptre, eagle with wreath left, Gamma in right field. Struck 314-315 A.D.
ANT(Star) in exergue
RIC.VII.Antioch.12. Rarity R.5.

More important to me than the rarity is that the coin is in good condition with eye appeal. Which in this case it is.

Nice addition.

Well done TC and congrats!

For an R5 your coin is in excellent condition, a nice bold strike with a pleasant patina. And regardless of what the rarity ratings actually mean these days, it is still quite an accomplishment to bag an R5 in this condition simply because there a so many collectors that seemingly are lurking and ready to pounce come auction time

Thanks, guys. I am 'chuffed'.
In the absence of a 'hole in one' I'll take the R.5. and it is nice to look at, too. (Would that all of my coins were of that standard.)

I agree the condition is more important than the rarity. The condition is excellent and the R5 is just an added plus.

That is a well struck, well preserved example. Congrats of getting it.

I noticed that in your attribution you note the exergual mark as ANT(star). There is no exergual star on these in RIC and I don't see one on yours, which is as it should be for RIC VII Antioch 12.

Thanks guys, for your kind comments, and irbguy, you are absolutely right. I don't know where I got that from. I shall put it down to a 'Senior' moment and hope that I do not have too many of them.
(Unfortunately it is too late for me to go back and 'edit' the post - 24 hour time limit).
