Hello mates, my first post in the land of Oz here

I had a couple questions about the 1/10 and 1/25oz 2008 dolphin coins. I noticed on the Perth Mint website that mintages are 2,500 for 1/10oz and 25,000 for 1/25oz.

Did these just go on sale within the last week or so?
How fast are theyestimated to sell out?

My wife collects all things dolphin, especially if they are shiny and yellow. I wanted to get her one of these for her birthday in July but I am not sure how long they will last. I haven't decided between the two but I am leaning for the 1/10oz size with the much lower mintage. Should I go ahead and purchase now rather than risk a quick sell-out or am I safe in waiting a couple months?

I'd love to be able to answer all your questions, but can only do 1. Yes, they have only just recently gone on sale.

I don't buy from Perth Mint, but I'm sure there are collectors of Aussie coins on this forum who do & will be able to advise you.

Personally, if I was thinking of getting a coin with only 2500 mintage, I'd try to latch on to it quick smart.

Keep in mind that the Aust price includes GST of 10% which overseas buyers do NOT pay so the eventual price for you in US$ would be about $155 plus postage.

You might want to ask Bigfella if he will layaway one for you.

Incidentally, is it 2500 worldwide or 2500 in Australia?

I think Bigfella is the person to answer this question as he's a dealer. Hopefully he can tell you better about the demand situation

I'm fairly sure it was 2500 worldwide for the 1/10th Oz.

The only Discover Australia coin that has been sold out (currently) is the 2006 1oz silver coin of Perth.

You can still subscribe to the three-year series in any of the combination metal/weight (bar the silver coins).

Part of the mintage, then, has already been sold to the three-year subscribers: personally I have subscribed to the full three year series of the 1oz silver coins, the 1/10oz gold coins and the 1/10oz platinum coins.

By the way, if the mint will not update it's price (that has a huge premium), maybe sales will be stronger this year. So I suggest you to hurry up... slowly :-) .
