I visited 4 of my local coin stores today to start a 1959 world set. Two of the stores are out of business, the third only dealt in US coins, and the 4th had a few binders where I managed to pick up: 1959 Austria 10 Groschen Austria 50 Groschen Cambodia 20 Sen Cambodia 50 Sen Columbia 2 Centavos Germany 2 Pfennig 1959 g Germany 2 Pfennig 1959 j Britain Three Pence Britain 1/2 Penny Mexico 5 Centavos Mexico 10 Centavos Spain 10 Centimos South Korea 50 Hwan Leaves about 301 more to go.

Are you looking for just one coin from each country or are you trying to get as many different coins as you can?

The goal is all coins issued in 1959, for now I will exclude the proofs, but I will see later.
This might go slow, as the shipping costs will make online purchases prohibitive, so I will probably stick to coin shows, of which there are not that many around.
I did just win an Italy 20 lire for $.55 with shipping, so online might be possible.

I went through my foreign currency and have a few duplicates to the ones you posted, but also have this 1959 Greece 10 Lepia if you would like it. It looks much nicer than the picture and isn't worth much so not really worth selling it. Shoot me a message if you're interested.

Hi May, that is a nice looking coin! You need to turn on your emails in your profile though.

I tried, but I don't see an option for that. I checked FAQ and it says to click My CCF to edit settings but I see no such link.

My pleasure. Glad I could help out. It came out of a really old envelope from the Littleton Coin Company with 2 other 1950s uncirc Greek coins marked 15cents (with that cent symbol that computers cant even make now a days). It was probably in there for 30 years or so untouched in the dark. Glad to see that it found a home in a perminent collection. You'll have to post a picture of the entire set once you finally get there.

Went to a LCS this Sunday with my son (13, trying to get him interested), maybe 20 dealers. 3 had a box of loose world coins, two at 10/$1, one at 5/$1. I told my son to pick 10 at each of those boxes, just pick what looks cool. The 5/$1 guy had a lot of 2by2's with world, but nothing with 1959. I spoke with that dealer for a while and he said that most modern world coins are worthless so he does not 2by2 anything that comes in loose. He said he just had someone last week who brought in grandma's old stash, and after a quick glance, he just dumped the world coins into his loose box. He said the owner got kind of mad that he did not care. He also said he recently won a 40,000 token lot, and he HAS sorted through every one of them. Now for the fun. My son and I sorted through a lot of the loose box at that dealer, only found 2 1959's that I did not have, but ended up getting 28 more 'shiny' and 'cool' coins. When we got home we looked up the value on a couple coins, and my son found that a lot of the coins purchased at .15 could be sold from $1-$4 dollars plus shipping on ebay. He asked if he can use his own money at the next show to buy more and sell them. I told him it sounded like a good plan. Maybe his interest will start as a dealer at 13. (he has only laughed at me for collecing coins in the past).

Sounds like a great time. Some interest is better than none.
