Hi I was wondering if I could have confirmation whether this coin is real or not. I know there are a large amount of fakes and contemporary counterfeits. The images are the ones provided by the seller.

Thanks

The coin design looks correct based on others I have seen, but I am less familiar with the type than with 8Rs. It does however show traces of the under type and it appears to have been rolled (stretching the original impression.

From what I have read, these were struck over Spanish 8R coins. So should the edge be plain as the seller pictured?

It is true that they were overstruck on 8Rs, however many have fully obliterated edges like this one. Boulton's press was collared and struck at very high pressure compared to a screw press. The coins were also prepared as planchets by rolling and I believe upsetting the edge to control the diameter.
