I am looking at MMS-008 here: http://www.varietyvista.com/San%20F...20Styles.htm

I have included the image below with permission.

To my eyes, 1973 No 2 looks like 008 (Tall Mintmark). The other two look different. Are they in fact 008 and just look the way they do because of fills and contact marks?

008 is supposed to be the MM style for 1952-1955 & 1968-1974.

And one more!

None of them look the same as the tall one to me.

Looks like the mint mark punch was very slightly off. (not enough to call it a RPM as there is no spread) But the 1970-S has a RPM that is taller, but it has a spread:

But I would call your normal and not a RPM.

I would need to see them in an overlay - one on top of the other to be sure, but numbers 1 & 2 look like they have some similarity to me. 69, however, looks different. Was no. 8 the only mm supposed to be used for those years?

...

Also: Looks like the 69 might have taken some hits, giving it a kind of trumpet tail design. Do all 69s look like that, or just that one?

Yes it was...thus the reason for my question and confusion.

Here are the 2 overlays you asked to see.
1973 No 1 with 008:

1973 No 2 with 008:

I think they want to see that tall S and be able to see your S both in the overlay so they can compare.

Tough call. There looks to have been some "weight gain" over the years, so to speak, and the top serifs look pretty different - but is all that within some normal threshold? The general shape of the Ss seems similar to me and the sizes are the same - so I don't know if there the wrong mm or not. Interesting...

I manipulated the overlay to make the sizes the same. Since the Variety Vista example is from a different date, it is impossible to get the scale exact.

I agree Ray, it's hard to be sure but the "fatness" of both of Pete's mm lead me to believe they are different.
