Hello everyone So I thought id try and complete a set of the last five years of the Standing Liberty quarters .. I purchased this 1925 to get me started , it has some really nice color on the obverse I just can't seem to get it to show up very well in a photo .. Now the reverse is on the darker side and I'm not as crazy about it but overall I like the coin ... Its in one of the blue anacs slabs graded AU55! So I'm wondering what you guys think as to grade? Do you think anacs got it right or not ?

AU53.
EDIT: Oh, I see it is already graded. In my opinion, it is somewhat weakly struck, and the unattractive toning on the reverse pulls it down a bit further for me. On a 55, I would really like to see more luster as well.

First the white balance is off... so you've got a yellowish cast over the entire coin. And second a lot of toning just doesn't come through in photos - the human eye and the camera sensor just see light differently.
But if you're interested pop on over to the photograph forum and we'll be happy to help you learn to take better photos.
We take all comers from the people who just want to learn to do the best they can with what they already have, to the people who want to spend a little and get the best bang for the buck and even to the people who just want to buy it already made (strangely that covers all price points, the best $100-200 Point&Shoot, the custom $400 rig and what we politely refer to as LotsAMoney).

IMHO, the eye appeal just isn't there for me. John1

I'm at AU53-55 as well. Eye appeal is not that great I would agree. Problem free IMO but air might have penetrated the seal causing the toning.

I'm at low AU details, and will take a stab at cleaned. Too much toning for a normal AU. The reverse colors look a bit whacky.

I'd agree with their AU-55, not sure the surfaces are original though.

Thanks for posting guys .. As Bstrauss mentioned the color is off with my photos , and the really nice toning along with some of the luster on the obverse just isn't coming threw in the photo ... The coin has a real beauty and the beast thing going on , I just couldn't capture a photo that would do justice .. Honestly I thought 55 was a bit generous for this coin and I also was leaning closer to AU-53 I really wasn't concerned if it was original , I'm not seeing any obvious sighns that would make me think it was cleaned .. There isn't as much luster on the reverse but as with most all coins I've seen with a dark toning it's like the luster is gone !! Is the luster under the toning on these heavily tone coins and just isn't showing threw ?
