Trying to complete my date set for capped bust halves. Capped busts are notorious for have being cleaned, but I dont mind owning a coin that has old cleaning that isn't too harsh. Which of these two would you go with based on grade and what would be the maximum price youd pay for it? The one that is has a brown patina is probably in a pvc-containing holder, so Id have to dunk that in acetone asap if that is the one I go with

I think the top is F12 and the bottom is VF cleaned. Would 120$ or less be good for either of the two?

Coin #1-better images are needed.

Coin #2- looks cleaned w/hairline scratches. Value? I don't know. Maybe another here knows.

I honestly think the bottom one has better eye appeal, and that's the one (if I was buying the coin) I would go with. Provided it's at a reasonable price, of course...

The bottom looks to have been abrasively cleaned. It is a higher grade than the first, but to me the eye appeal of the first coin is superior and it will sell easier if you ever decide to upgrade in the future, always a consideration when building a set.

Usually pvc damage is a greenish to blue color.

Would $100 for the top and $120 for the bottom be a decent price?

No way.

I'd put $70 on the first and I'd never buy the 2nd.

They're not overdates, the punctuated date, or particularly scarce Overton varieties.

Thanks. I guess Ill wait for others to pass up if the dealer doesn't take around 70-80 for the first. I appreciate the help!

Don't let that discourage you. If you can afford it, and like the coin, buy it. On the other hand, if you're on the fence or don't really like the coin, wait for a better deal.

Is it just me or does anyone else see graffiti on the obverse of coin #1.
