I like the feeling of being close to completing... something that never happens because in the style of Colombo there is always "just one more thing"

Wow. Where does a coin collector start. Depends on individual tastes I suppose. For me its a few things. The rich history of a coin for one thing (like ancients or US Classic coins), then of course its the design of the coins, discovering a new variety or type of coin you never knew existed and of course actually purchasing it and getting it in hand.

for me it's the history of each coin. Especially the very old ones. Who might have held them, what might they have been spent on. I love US history and these coins speak to the heart of it.

Not even sure any more. After well over 60 years of coin collecting, starting to think it's time to do something else. I USED to like attempting to complete a series of coins and make a complete Album. Now finding this is really not easy. For example I'm still trying to finish a Mercury dime Album of all FSB Dimes. Imagine after this long and still 4 more to go. Same with many Albums. Just a few more to go. I am starting to think I really need a new hobby.

I just like having them. It's like having your own personal museum.
Coins last such a long time that it's easy to accumulate a decent collection that's over 100+ years old.

I figure that coin collecting is better than spending my spare money on cigarettes and beer ! More seriously, it is a lifetime interest for me.

In no particular order,
1. The thrill of discovery, whether at a coin show, coin store, flea market, or antique show, and a very good walk or sprint. 2. Winning a discount on the bundle or getting a deal on the purchase. 3. The rich history that is in the world of coins. 4. The relaxation of examining the coins for any new varieties.
