I hear there are a lot of counterfeit medals out there and I am very new at collecting medals, war medals especially, and I was wondering if these were authentic? If not, how can you tell they are fake?

I am new to medal collecting too. The first medal you posted is actually one I hope to pick up soon.

WHen I looked up the first medal I bought on ebay to see if I got a good deal I noticed a few things. Firstly if you bought it from any former U.S.S>R. or Yugoslavacian countries I am sorry, it is a fake. Just like coins by from a reputable dealer. The fake medals from the east are poured into a cast and has a seam.

With that in mind your medal (a cross of honor of the Germany Mother silver level) seems correct. Do you have the manilla envelope it came in?

I new a guy who used to go to the Florencville collector club that would not touch Nazi because it was s o often faked but I find that if you buy it from a dealer you are set, stay out of pawn shops and flea markets.

Sorry for the ramble but the Mother's cross (The only one I am familiar with) looks spot on.

Thank you, Harmonica for the tips and info. I bought several medals in Hong Kong from a dealer that has been going to that coin/watch show for many years. Some of them I know now that are fakes (replica) but a few that are I am happy with. I don't think he actually realized they were fake himself. He is a very proud man of honor. He was mad and offered all my money back at the next show. A true gentleman!
