I recently acquired this 1856 N-13d (R6-). The contact marks are leaving me confused on what grade to assign. Any ideas? Also what would the darker areas be called? Rust? Corrosion?

Looks around VF25-30ish. Not sure what the darker stuff is, but it might grade problem free, the issues are fairly minor, but then again could be details for a couple of reasons. The contact marks don't appear to be too bad, normal wear. Nice coin.

I'll say VF-30 details.

I would say it looks like VF 25, possibly cleaned.

......am assuming it's darker in hand, looks like bright lights were used for photos?

The first photo showing the detail of the rim Cud is closer to the actual color. Thanks for asking.
