So last night I came up with an idea and thought I would try it out with a few coins and wanted your opinion. I made 5 kijiji ads listing 5 very low end coins to see if there would be any interest in an auction/silent auction type format. I know about ebay and truthfully while it's a fantastic vehicle to move decent coins I was just trying something new... I was actually impressed to see my inbox today that someone actually has bid on one of the items... Just wondering what other members think of this idea... (I'm not sure I should or can post a link so you can see the ad but that doesn't matter ... all I really want is your opinion on the idea itself) Edited by AgCoinAu 09/18/2015 11:59 am

If it generates interest and you're okay with the price the lots sell for, that's great. How are you doing the payment? Paypal with shipping or local pick up? The city I used to live in was very well versed with Kijiji and I used it regularly, but where I'm at now nobody really uses it, which is sad. Good luck!

My wife's put lots of things on Kijiji that sold pretty quick and at good prices. It's very active in our area, just outside T.O.

For payment most items right now are very low... and I would imagine I would only get a local audience. If this goes well I suppose I might put up some better items and be willing to ship.. but I also just see this as an opportunity to meet some others that like coin and say hi... ahh well.. it's still pretty early to tell but I said I would run the auction for 7 days... we'll see by next week if there was any interest or not.

Obviously the other danger is letting people know you have coins, then meeting them some place (or inviting them to your home). Some would view that as a hazard, but it would be good to meet other coin people too, so there are definitely two sides.

I've bought coins a few times from sellers on Kijiji, always heeding the advise of meeting the seller at a public place such as a restaurant or coffee shop. It worked out very well, a neutral environment, good chatting about the hobby.
The idea of an Kijiji silent- type auction is a novel idea, I'm interested in how it works out for you.

Right now I'm on the iPad so I don't know how to copy and paste the link but if you google search kijiji coin auction #1 #2 #3 #4 or #5 my ad should pop up. If you wanna check out the ad and give any feed back that would be good..... Someone already said I should be clearer on how the bidding process will go so I think later tonight I will write an excerpt on that

You might want to fix your twoonie ad AgCoinAu. it describes the 50 cent piece. That 1965 50 cent piece is mine!!

Ag for some reason your ad #4 shows a pic of a Wait For Me Daddy but describes a 1965 50c piece. I have just a thought, take it or leave it....rather than detailing the reason why not to use ebay, I'd offer the benefit to the buyer, ie lower price because no selling fees involved. Also if you're not interested in shipping, you might want to mention the specifics In your ad (successful buyer receives coin how?) to provide interested parties with full information. Regardless, good luck!

Thank you wildflower .. I just updated the ads.. so I may have done a copy paste error on the wait for me daddy twoonie... #5 is the '65 50 cent piece... You also make a great point about "how someone would acquire the coins" ... I think I will have to add those details in the next set of ads if this round goes well...
I tell you I have had two bids tonight and it's actually kind of fun seeing that some others are interested in the same coins I like as well...

You endeavours remind me of my funniest Kijiji experience...I replied to an ad, seller had listed quite a lot of high grade SD but I was only interested in a few that were affordable for me. It was a couple hours drive and seller gave me the choice of the meeting place. I googled the address of a well known coffee franchise on the side of the city closest to the road that I was taking. Problem was, when I got there a few minutes before the agreed upon time - it was an Express takeout in a very busy gas station! Hardly could meet in a drive thu! And although I'd brought my cellphone, I forgot to bring his #. Meeting to buy coin at a gas station - how crazy is that!
So we went into the gas station, which thankfully had about 5 stools and a tiny ledge to sit at by the front door, where dozens of people were coming and going. He arrived (I'd given him a description of myself), plus he brought along a couple of other albums of coins that he was selling. So I looked, made my purchase, handed him cash, and that was that. I think he thought I was overly paranoid, choosing that location! Every time I look at those particular SDs, I can't help but chuckle.....

Hoarder: I wish you luck! right now the bid at around $2.50 I think it's a steal!
I'll be honest I have already had fun with this little experiment and so long as the transactions go well at the end I will definitely do this again... it's very fun!

Good luck, I'm always looking at kijiji It just seems in my area when someone posts an add they have no idea what something is worth, and not in a good way. Lots of, I seen one on the Internet for $1000.....lol. Good luck

Neat idea for sure... I'm always looking for new ways to sell coins. ebay works great when you can list for free but those are getting less and less.. with more restrictions. I'm going to just be creating my own store online sometime in the future.
